Haere Mai & Welcome is an intergenerational & intercultural creative initiative designed to give new Roskill residents the information they need to find their feet in their new neighbourhood. It helps people to be informed and involved, so they can make the most of living in Roskill.

With the amount of development happening in the neighbourhood, there are lots of new faces coming into the community. So, this initiative was set up to give these newcomers a warm and friendly welcome.

Led by Roskill Together, Haere Mai & Welcome is supported by multiple locally-based organisations. Kāinga Ora is proud to help fund the project and collaborate with the community on the initiative.

A Haere Mai & Welcome: Roskill Neighbourhood Get Together event was held on Saturday 25 March this year at Mt Roskill Baptist Church. It was a casual gathering, with live cultural performances and yummy kai. It was a great way for existing residents to be involved and welcome the new faces into the community.

Locals also had the chance to have their say on how to spend $20,000, funded by sponsors, in the community. They could vote for their favourite project ideas, including: Community Gathering and Fun Activities, Local Community and Environmental Groups, Community Support Services, Youth Support Services, Community-led Development and Support, Community Communication and Connectedness and Community Safety and Crime Prevention.

The most voted for project ideas were Community Safety and Crime Prevention, Youth Services, and Community-led Development and Support. Roskill Together will work with the community for the next stage, so keep an eye on their website for more information.

The Roskill Development team was there answering questions about new homes, infrastructure, and amenities coming to the neighbourhood.

Haere Mai & Welcome is a great way for residents to support their community. If you'd like to get involved, visit their website.
