Growing Community in Waikōwhai

At Kāinga Ora, building homes is just the beginning. What really turns a neighbourhood into a place people love is connection, and that’s exactly what’s happening in Waikōwhai.

Through our partnership with Roskill South Hub, we’re supporting community‑led events, youth programmes and local activities that bring people together and make the most of shared spaces.

Roskill South Hub leads this mahi on the ground. With strong local relationships and a deep understanding of the community, the Hub works alongside residents, schools and partners to deliver activities people genuinely want to take part in.

From big celebrations like Twilight Christmas at Molley Green, Molley Green Day and A Movie in the Park, to smaller, regular activities and the weekly Hoodlinks after‑school programme, there’s something for everyone. Much of this takes place at Molley Green Reserve and the Roskill South Hub, helping turn these spaces into busy, positive places to gather.

The impact is already clear. More people are using Molley Green Reserve, community connections are growing, and there’s been a positive shift in the air. It shows what’s possible when we invest in people, not just places.

As Waikōwhai continues to change and grow, this work helps build a strong community culture, one that supports current residents and welcomes future ones. It’s a reminder that creating great neighbourhoods means working alongside communities, listening, learning and growing together.
