Development in Ōwairaka is well underway. We’re replacing approximately 200 old state houses with around 1,000 new state, affordable and market homes, and we’re also replacing a huge amount of valuable infrastructure - like water services and power connections, footpaths, roads and more.

In the area around Olympus Street (including Murray Halberg Park Pedestrian Access and Hargest Terrace), upcoming construction work will include:

  • Upgrading stormwater and wastewater
  • Moving overhead power and phone connections underground
  • Improving streets - with new footpaths, lighting and planting
  • Building a new road to connect Hargest Street and Olympus Street
  • Creating a new accessway connecting Olympus Street and Range View Road

Olympus Street will be closed from Monday 12 September until the end of October 2023

With so much work going on, we will need to temporarily close Olympus Street to through-traffic, so we can maintain residents’ access to their homes and keep everyone safe while allowing construction to progress as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Access to Murray Halberg Park via Olympus Street between 12 September and the end of October 2023 will also be temporarily closed; however the three other access points to the park will remain open.

A temporary traffic management plan will be in place to guide pedestrians and vehicles through the area, as well as in and out of private property. Download a map of the affected area here
