Over the last few years, The Ōwairaka Hub has offered locals (and visitors to the neighbourhood) a space to find out about the regeneration in Ōwairaka and so much more!

The lovely Community House, tucked behind our Info Cube, has been a haven and a hive of vibrant activity for the community. Local whānau and groups have used the Community House to host workshops and events, as a quiet place to build their own small businesses, and as a place to relax and simply, be.

Sadly, the Ōwairaka Hub will close down on September 30th. For health and safety reasons the Community House cannot be relocated because it contains asbestos. We’re now actively working with all our local groups, who have become like family to us, to find alternative spaces so that they can continue to connect and do great work in the community.

Kirsten Petersen has been working alongside the community at the Ōwairaka Hub for the last 2 years. She would like to extend a personal farewell to everyone who got involved. “It has been such a privilege working with local whānau at the Hub. I’d like to thank everyone who walked through our doors. A special mihi goes out to our community groups, whose dedication and creativity helped make the Community House such a warm, and welcoming place for all.”

The Ōwairaka Information Cube, outside the Community House, closed its doors on September 19th. The Info Cube will soon be relocated and open at its new address in mid- to-late October. Keep up-to-date with the Cube’s movements on Facebook!

We’re currently looking to move the table tennis table and view master from the Hub to Te Auanga, so that the community can continue to enjoy them. The stormwater interactive piece in the Community House will have a new home at the Info Cube in its new location soon. Aroha nui and stay tuned for more updates.
