Wesley is one of the 14 neighbourhoods in the Roskill Development area. Situated between two of Roskill’s maunga, Ōwairaka to the north and Puketāpapa to the South, it is a centrally-located neighbourhood and locals say it’s a great place to live because it’s so easy to get around Auckland. It has immediate access to SH20 (the southwestern motorway). Wesley is one of the most diverse pockets in our multicultural city, with 88 ethnicities represented.

Te Auaunga (Oakley Creek) runs through the Wesley neighbourhood, providing a central green spine which residents use for exercise and play, or as a pleasant pedestrian route to other parts of the neighbourhood. Thanks to the hard work of locals and agencies, the restoration of the awa is continuing and it is a highly valued amenity for Aucklanders. The section of the creek that runs through Wesley has been liberated from the man-made culvert it was diverted through last century and brought above ground again to once more follow its natural route - a process called ‘daylighting’.

Wesley is home to three schools – Wesley Primary, Wesley Intermediate, and Christ the King Catholic School. Locals have excellent access to shops, supermarkets and eateries within Wesley itself on Stoddard Road, and are also handy to Dominion Road’s shops and the array of food options it offers.

Auckland is growing. We're making plans in Wesley

The goal of development is to enhance Wesley’s considerable strengths. This means improving and increasing transport connections so that it’s even easier to get around Wesley, and in and out of the neighbourhood.

We will increase the number and quality of homes available to buy or rent in Wesley, including state homes for Aucklanders who need housing assistance. Expect to see a range of new, sustainable homes that offer people a modern, urban lifestyle in a neighbourhood where they can walk to nearby parks and vibrant local shopping areas and eateries.

At the same time, we’re upgrading infrastructure and amenities so that public places and essential services are brought up to date and made safer.

This is a diverse neighbourhood with a strong sense of place, and we’ll be working hard to support this warm, down to earth, and very welcoming community to retain its special character as it grows.

What's happening in Welsey?

Our planning for the neighbourhood of Wesley will begin soon and we would like to share what this means for the community. Please be assured no one will be required to move house now; this is just the start of our planning.
