Overview
Roskill South is a young, culturally diverse community well equipped with schools, parks and public amenities. Home to Puketāpapa (Mt Roskill) itself, the neighbourhood offers a wide range of recreational opportunities, including walkways, cycleways and places to picnic.
Roskill South is one of Auckland’s most ethnically diverse neighbourhoods with a higher number of people identifying as Pacific, Middle Eastern, Latin American and African than surrounding areas. The people who live here are also comparatively young and households have a higher number of children, according to the latest census data.
The area is only seven kilometres from the central city, which is easily accessible via public transport, including a frequent bus service along Dominion Road. It’s home to May Road Primary School, and Mt Roskill’s three schools; Mt Roskill Grammar, Mt Roskill Intermediate, and Mt Roskill Primary School which are all within walking distance.
There’s a lot of green space for people to enjoy the outdoors, including Keith Hay Park and Winstone Park, while Cameron Pool and Leisure Centre and the Akarana Golf Course have excellent sport and recreation facilities.
