The suburb is home to great schools, parks, walking and biking tracks, and food places - all within 15 minutes drive of the Auckland CBD and popular beaches. The Roskill Development is bigger than the name suggests, extending well beyond the boundaries of Mt Roskill itself. With over 10,000 new homes coming over the next 10-15 years, the renovated neighbourhoods, amenities and infrastructure, is only going to attract more investment and make this thriving suburb an even more desirable place to live.
Why here?
Auckland needs more homes for more people, more quickly. We’re underway with a number of large scale development projects across the city as part of Kainga Ora’s Urban Development programme. The Mt Roskill Development is one of these projects. It will deliver about 10,000 new homes to several neighbourhoods in the greater Roskill area over 10-15 years. Development work has begun in Mt Roskill South and Ōwairaka, with further neighbourhoods under consideration for the future.
The greater Roskill area has been chosen for development because it has good local facilities and transport links and it’s close to the city centre, the airport, and other employment hubs in southeast Auckland. The community also has Kainga Ora state homes that are past their best and need renewing.
Building housing on such a large scale gives us the chance to ‘renovate’ the area we are working in and bring public spaces and facilities up to date for the community. New people will move into the area, providing more customers for local businesses and more people to contribute to community organisations and schools.
Greater Roskill’s neighbourhoods already have vibrant, diverse communities. Our vision is to increase the supply and choice of housing available in these areas so that these communities can continue to grow and thrive.
