Ōwairaka Food Truck Night Brings the Community Together

03 Mar 2026
RD OW Food Truck Night 081

Last Thursday, more than 600 people gathered at Murray Halberg Park for our Ōwairaka Food Truck Night - an evening full of kai, fun, and genuine connection. The park buzzed with energy as families enjoyed tasty food, kids’ stalls, face painting, and lawn games.

Locals described the night as ‘a wonderful community event’ and shared how much their families enjoyed it. Many also commented on the impressive turnout from the Ōwairaka School whānau, reflecting the strong neighbourhood pride and sense of togetherness the event sparked.

Among the highlights were neighbours sharing kai at picnic tables, kids playing together on the grass, and plenty of new connections being made. These simple, joyful moments showcased the vibrant community spirit that makes Ōwairaka such a special place.

Events like this are part of our goal to bring residents together, strengthen social ties, and cement Murray Halberg Park as a lively community hub. With 470 new homes now completed in Ōwairaka and another 700 on the way, gatherings like this are becoming increasingly important in helping new and long‑standing neighbours connect.

We’re grateful to our local partners – the Ōwairaka Community Hub, Common Folk, and the Sea Scout Hall team, whose support helped everything run smoothly from set‑up to pack‑down. Their involvement made it possible to create a welcoming, family‑friendly space for everyone.

Thanks to the enthusiastic response and the many requests for more, we’re excited to plan additional community events throughout the year. We look forward to creating more opportunities for connection across Ōwairaka.
