The Molley Green Community Day is full of music, food and fun.
This year, it happened on March 18, hosted by Roskill South Oasis Hub in collaboration with other local community groups. There was a bouncy castle, live performances, games, a free sausage sizzle and loads of other things for the community to enjoy.
The Molley Green Community Day is an annual, free and whānau-friendly event that has been going for 15 years. It’s a fun way for local organisations, service providers and community groups to get together and celebrate with the Waikōwhai community.
The Roskill Development team and our civil works partner Piritahi were there talking to the community about new homes, infrastructure, and amenities coming to the neighbourhood, as well as the Molley Green Reserve upgrade plans.
They also gave out complimentary fruit smoothies and coffee to help keep the community fuelled.
A highlight of the event was watching local tamariki building cubby houses. They were amazing little builders, and got to use drills and other tools under the watchful team from Bunnings Mt Roskill, who donated the material used to build the houses.
Two lucky local whānau won the houses, and the Roskill Development and Piritahi teams delivered them to their new Waikōwhai homes.
The Roskill Development team also had the privilege of meeting Molley Green’s daughter, Suzanne Kop, and her granddaughter. Here they are with Rose Cosgrove, Kāinga Ora’s Stakeholder Relationship Manager.
The Kāinga Ora Homeownership team was also there to answer questions about the financial support available to help people get onto the property ladder.
This was the first event in a few years, due to Covid-19 restrictions, so it was great to see the community come together again. Thankfully, there wasn’t much rain and the sun shone through the clouds.
